Frequently Asked Questions

Before you buy

Are the Connected Thermostats compatible with Air Conditioning?

No, our Connected Thermostats are designed to work in conjunction with Central Heating systems.

Can I operate my evohome comfort with the PC or laptop?

Below features are available on the web browser:

  • View all temperatures in ‘real time’;
  • Change quick actions and set for a given time;

  • Helpful ‘hover’ info above quick actions;
  • User interface prompts user accordingly when an illegal ask is performed (if changing a zone whilst a quick action evident);
  • All current languages the app covers, are covered by this function.
evohome is wireless, will it work in my house?

All of our evohome components work on frequency of 868 Mhz. We guarantee the range of 30 metres, however this can be impaired due to the construction of various types of properties and we would therefore always recommend a point to point signal test. You may wish to engage with one of our Connected Specialists.

I am moving my house, can I take my evohome system with me?

Yes, however you may wish to engage with a Connected Specialist in order to remove and replace your evohome system in your current property and install in your new property.

Is evohome suitable for my Property?

evohome is suitable for most wet heating systems including S-Plan, Y-Plan and Under Floor Heating. It will work with both Combination
and System Boilers, Oil and Gas. evohome will allow you to support up to twelve heating zones and one hot water zone per controller.

My radiators are in radiator covers, can I still use the evohome?

Yes, you will still need the HR92 on the radiator but this will act purely as an actuator and then you will need a Y87RF to act as the external temperature sensor for that Zone, however if that radiator is part of multiple radiator zone setup and is not the master sensing radiator, external temperature sensor is not required.

Where can I find out more or get some answers to other questions I may have?

Please visit www.fitathermostat.com to find out more about your home heating. This has further resources and more FAQs. Additionally Honeywell have an extensive network of trained and recognised installers who can advise further.

Will the HR92 fit on my Radiator Valves?

The HR92 will fit directly on most currently manufactured TRV’s with a M30 x 1.5mm thread. Honeywell do provide some adapters which must be ordered separately to fit some of the alternatives (ACH28, M28 1.5mm, AOV30 M30 1.0mm, EVA1 Danfoss RAV and RVL TRV’s, if none of these options are suitable, you will need to change your valve bodies which Honeywell can provide and are V120-15A (15mm angled valve body) or our VR20-15S (15mm straight valve body).

Is evohome suitable for Electric Under Floor Heating?

No, evohome is not suitable for controlling Electric Under Floor Heating.

What kind of home network do I need to have to use evohome or Connected products from Honeywell?

To have connected products from Honeywell you will need home broadband which provides a stable internet connection. Honeywell connected products require an IP address assigned by DHCP. It will not work or be supported on networks where there is no DHCP. Honeywell products communicate on port 443 (HTTPS) which is a common open port used by many companies to perform secure online shopping and other secure transmissions. This port, by default, will not be blocked by your internet service provider or hardware. If you have a customised network or employ some additional security measures then please ensure this port is open for our products.

Set up and connection

What happens to my thermostat settings if the power goes out in my home?

If the power goes out the backup battery of your evohome Controller will ensure that the settings will be recovered when power is back up.

Why does the evohome need to be plugged into mains?

The evohome Controller can be used for up to 2 hours when removed from its Charging Dock.
When removed from the Charging Dock the Controller will beep after around 20 minutes to remind the user to return it to the base. It needs to be mains powered as the evohome system uses wireless communication between
sensors and actuators so there a constant draw from the evohome Controller.

How do I know if my thermostat is properly registered to my account?

Log in to your Total Connect Comfort account and select the location to which you registered your evohome thermostat. The MAC of your thermostat shall be displayed under the 'Device Assigned to this Location' section of the page.

How do I wall mount my evohome Controller?

Each evohome Controller comes with a Table Stand, however in the event you wish wall mount your evohome
controller you can purchase ATF600 wall mount kit which will need to be wired to the mains. For this kind of installation you may wish to contact our Connected Specialist.

Can I install this myself?

As with any electrical device, Honeywell advises that all electrical installation needs to be carried out by a qualified person. Before attempting installation the zoning system needs to be carefully planned.

If there are no TRV valves, or there is under floor heating again Honeywell would advise engaging a recognised installer. If there are existing TRV valves, then it is a simple process of unscrewing and fitting the ‘radiator zone kits’. This has been designed so that customers who have evohome, and want to grow their Smart Zoning over time can.

To find out more about how the system is installed, download our full Installation Guide, which comes in the pack as well.

Does a wireless thermostat cause any interference with other wireless devices in my home?

Honeywell's Connected Thermostats use Honeywell's proprietary communication protocol that work on the 868Mhz band. This should not interfere with any other wireless devices.

How do I control my hot water using evohome?

You can control your hot water, time and temperature from evohome for either a Vented or Unvented Cylinder. You will need an ATF500DHW hot water kit. For a Vented Cylinder you will use the strap on Cylinder Sensor and for the Unvented Cylinder you will need a pocket on your Cylinder to place the insertion sensor provided in the hot water kit. If you are unsure, please contact one of our Connected Specialists

Is there a way to extend the wireless (RF) signal strength?

Currently, Honeywell does not manufacture any wireless repeaters. The range cannot be extended.

My system is configured as an S-Plan Plus, how do I control more than one Heating Valve?

Ideally, you should simplify the installation, however in certain cases it is possible to control an S Plan Plus System we would always recommend engaging with a Connected Specialist

What is the range or distance of the wireless (RF) signal?

In a home environment, depending on the fabric of the property Honeywell can achieve a typical reliable range of 30m.

Where can I find a data sheet or installation manual for evohome?

You can find more details on evohome on our trade website, which hosts more information such as installation instructions and user manuals.

Will I have to re-decorate?

evohome is wireless in its communication with the zone devices. So there should be virtually no need to lay down wires or perform any intrusive operation. Additionally you can always change your mind when it comes to your smart zoning system configuration. Should you redecorate or move your home around, today’s bedroom can become a study room tomorrow with a completely different pattern of room occupancy. No rewiring or replumbing is required. A Honeywell recognised installer can advise further if you have any questions.

The firmware updates are being installed automatically or on demand by us (if needed).

For Wi-Fi the updates are being pushed the same as mentioned above.

How to perform a Factory Reset on the evohome controller?

Please see full answer in our Support Article

Why does the HR92 reboot if touched?

It is possible that the battery connection is not as good as required to ensure faultless operation. This can be due to small variances in the size of the batteries from different manufacturers. We recommend that the battery tab is secured using the screws supplied. This action helps ensure a secure connection and protects against aggravated battery removal. The HR92 installation instructions show this action on page 3.

Where can I find an installation guide for the evohome system?

The evohome installation guide can be found on this page in the 'Downloads' section.

Using your evohome Wi-Fi

Can the radiator controllers be used on towel radiators in bathrooms where there is a high level of moisture?

The environmental standards for the HR92 are:
Operating temperature: 0 – 50 °C
Humidity: 10 – 90% RH non condensing
However, care should be taken to site the components away from direct exposure to high levels of moisture or splashing.

How many time and temperature profiles per day does the evohome allow?

evohome allows a maximum of 6 time and temperature profiles per day, per zone with the minimum of 5 degrees frost protection.

I have more than one radiator in one of my rooms, how would I control all of the radiators?

If you have multiple radiators in a room, you will still need a HR92 Wireless TRV head for each Radiator, but during set up the first HR92 would be bound in as a Sensor and Actuator with the remaining HR92's bound in as Actuators.

What is optimum start and optimum stop?

Many old heating controls required you to guess what time heating should come on to be the right temperature at a specific time, for instance when you wake up. This guesswork is very inefficient and requires constant interaction throughout the changing seasons.

Honeywell’s optimum start technology allows you to set a ‘set point’ temperature at a specific time and evohome works out when to start to get to that point exactly at the right time. evohome understands how your home heats up and cools down. So when you want it at 21 degrees at 7am, it will be perfectly arranged to be that temperature exactly at that time. evohome dynamically adjusts to the home, so if it is a cooler starting point, then evohome calculates how much to come on earlier, ensuring optimum comfort.

Honeywell’s optimum stop technology applies the same ‘fuzzy logic’ to enable savings on scheduled lower temperature set point. For instance you set at 11pm the home temperature is 18 degrees from 21 degrees in the evening. Within traditional systems the boiler would stop and the residual heat in the central heating would continue to ‘warm’ the home. evohome understands how the home reacts and so efficiently turns the boiler off just at the right time earlier to allow the residual heat in the heating system to be efficiently used, saving energy.

Where can I find out more or get some answers to other questions I may have?

Please visit www.fitathermostat.com to find out more about your home heating. This has further resources and more FAQs. Additionally Honeywell have an extensive network of trained and recognised installers who can advise further.

How do I get the energy savings?

Energy saving and waste reduction are the key principles at the heart of Honeywell Smart zoning system. You eliminate unnecessary energy use by heating only if and when they are used. You set all the other rooms to a reduced temperature and thus you save energy and your money.

Through the inherent benefits of zoning and remote control as well as through continually making our products more efficient and more tailored for each person and situation, Honeywell will be continually engaging its customers with notifications and further product development.

For example, we will be optimising the options available on the evohome app on an ongoing basis, providing users with Honeywell’s expertise through one-touch updates to available heating profiles as well as energy saving tips.

We also recommend users make the most of the expertise our Honeywell installers have at their fingertips. Working closely with installers to plan a thorough, tailored solution will reap significant benefits

How do I schedule the heating of my thermostat?

You can schedule the heating in the following way:

From the mobile app, enter the thermostat screen and press on the calendar icon located on the top right hand corner of the screen.

The system will synchronize your entire heating schedule within a few minutes.

How does the evohome controller work? (display)

The evohome controller becomes the ‘brains’ of your heating system. The easy to use display is touch screen and full colour. Within its single screen design evohome gives a lot of insight into your home and how your system is operating. Link here.

Is there an Under Floor Heating Floor Probe available?

The Under Floor Heating Controller is designed to work with wet Under Floor Heating systems controlled from a manifold. There is no input for a floor sensor. The floor temperature is controlled by setting the mixing valve to the appropriate temperature advised by the manifold manufacturer. The room thermostat provides a demand signal to the system based on the temperature in the room and the required set point.

How many Zones does evohome allow?

Each evohome controller is capable of controlling maximum of 12 heating zones and one hot water zone.

What constitutes a Zone?

Zoning allow you to divide your home into several areas depending on typical occupancy, so you can heat areas depending on where and when do you spending time at home. Heating the whole house in one zone is like controlling your lighting with one switch. Zoning lets you heat specific areas as and when you use them for maximum comfort at minimum cost. A zone could be a collective of one or more radiators with no maximum.

What is OpenTherm?

OpenTherm is the name given to a form of communication of information between modulating (condensing) central heating appliances and room thermostats. It sets the rules as to how the appliance and room thermostat communicate with each other.

What is the difference between the evohome WiFi and the evohome with Gateway?

The new evohome controller has as incorporated WiFi option and it connects directly to the wireless network.

The previous version of the evohome controller did not have a WiFi option so it needed the RFG100 Gateway to connect to the internet and to our server.

The evohome controller and radiators are in 'off' setting but the boiler continues to fire

Please see full answer in our Support Article.

What temperature sensors can I add to the evohome system?

The evohome controller allows you to configure one temperature sensor for each zone.

The remote sensors that are compatible with the evohome system are:

  • Y87RF Single Zone thermostat
  • DT92E  thermostat
  • The HR92 can also be used as a thermostat for a zone
How can I control individually the underfloor heating and a towel radiator, which are fitted in the bathroom?

The only option is to create 2 zones, one for the towel radiator using the HR92 as a sensor and as an actuator and one for the underfloor heating using a thermostat (Single zone or DT92E) as a sensor.

The sensor for the underfloor heating has to be mounted in another space, because if both sensors are placed in the same zone, they will function based on the same temperature.

Using the evohome controller you can set the desired temperature separately for the zones created.

Please note that the sensor for the underfloor heating will function based on the space temperature where is mounted.

What does the USB port in the evohome controller do?

The USB port should be used only for manually deploying the firmware on the controller, but it was discontinued with the new generation of evohome and it's not advisable to use it for this purpose as you can damage the software.

What standard TRV heads can be used to replace the HR80UK radiator controller?

Any of the heads from the 'Flow Solutions' brochure will fit as all are M30 thread connection.

All Honeywell TRV heads are interchangeable.

How to bind the HR92 to Evohome controller?

How to bind the HR92 Radiator Controllers to the evohome controller:

  1. Remove the circular top cover.
  2. Open the battery clip and insert the AA batteries supplied.
  3. Close the clip and replace the cover.
  4. Press the menu button once - it should say UNBOUND.
  5. Press and hold the menu button for a further 5 seconds until it says BIND.
  6. Press the menu button once - it should say BINDING.
  7. You should receive a SUCCESS message on the evohome controller(if not go back and re-bind).
  8. The name of the allocated zone should appear on the HR92 display when you press the menu button.
  9. Either press the green tick button to add another radiator to the zone.
  10. Or press the red cross button if you don't need to add another radiator to the zone.
What is a suitable corner towel rail valve that the HR92 heads will screw onto?

This information can be found on page 5 of the following document.

The valves found on page 5 are the only towel rail bodies that Honeywell manufactures with lockshields.

Where can I find an installation guide for the evohome system?

The evohome installation guide can be found on this page in the 'Downloads' section.
